Meet Maddy From Openair Fitness

I’m a sucker for a success story, especially when it comes to love and a passion for fitness.

So today’s blog post is a little bit cool because it involves both

Meet Maddy!

This smiler has combined her love for fitness and helping others with her adorable relationship and together, she and Co-Owner/fiancée Richard, have created their business Openair Fitness here in Perth.

With a twist on classes you traditionally see inside a gym, Openair helps you achieve your fitness goals outside in the fresh air surrounded by the beautiful scenery WA has to offer.

She’s your girl next door who’s found her passion in life and living it #preach

1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your journey to health?

I’m the co-owner of Openair Fitness and I have always been active having grownup playing a lot of basketball. From the age of about 14 I began to take an interest in group fitness classes and over the years I have tried almost all of them but I didn’t find one that suited me or that I could really embrace.

I met Richard in 2012 at a gym he was managing at the time and he introduced me to a whole new training scene, one that I have enjoyed and followed since that day. At the time I was studying nursing and I always knew that whatever I was going to do when I left school needed to involve helping others and the health industry. Since meeting Richard I have turned my passion for fitness into a career and am now doing what I love everyday by educating women on the power of nutrition and exercise.

2) What are your favourite ways to train?

Each week I train full body by doing push, pull, squat, lunge, bend & twist. I most enjoy weight-based sessions with high intensity circuit training mixed in. I do two pull days as I used to have poor posture from bending over a computer.

3) Openair launched 2 years ago – tell us what makes it different from other fitness programs?

First of all, Perth is far too beautiful to be exercising inside four walls! As I mentioned in my “about me” section, I have tried most group classes and didn’t particularly embrace any of them. I can honestly say Openair is like no other group fitness class. Every training session is completely unique compared to the last and we program to get the maximum results for each client.

Openair Fitness has a huge variety of exercise equipment and does a majority of weight based sessions and keep our numbers small to monitor exercise technique.

We understand that women can feel intimidated by the weights section at the gym so together we have created a friendly warm environment for women to train in judgment free! We go above and beyond for all of our clients and create a personal relationship with them. I don’t believe you should ever feel like a number in a group exercise class. Our body transformation members have access to a member’s page which we created for them to connect with not only us but each other too. We are with each and every client every step of their journey.

4) Where do you see Openair in the next 5 years?

Our vision is to grow across Australia without losing our core values. This will be done in the form of new locations and through an exciting new avenue, “Openair online”.

5) As a business owner in the fitness industry helping clients to reach their goals, how do you find the time to make your own health goals a priority?

I train with two other trainers every session (Rich and Jeremy). I find we push each other through sessions and keep each other accountable. We have the same method as we do for our clients and every 5-6 weeks we do an assessment, sit down together to look over the results and re-assess our training plan to make sure we are heading in the right direction.

6) What is your go to snack for those busy days on the run?

I follow If It Fits Your Macros (IIFYM) so depends on what I’m working towards.

My favorites though would have to be:

– Frozen grapes, blueberries and strawberries.

– Quest bar

– Protein shake

– Chobani with a scoop of protein mixed in.

– Ryvitas with tomato and avocado.

7) Tell us a random fact about you.

I still don’t understand how to use a MacBook- I miss my old school computer!

Likes to eat AND isn’t afraid to poke fun at herself; Maddy, I like you!
